Winter Fuel Campaign

You will be going underground with TV presenter, Harry Gration and others who are happy to start the New Year helping keep local families warm this Winter. To book your place go to Alternatively, you would be more than welcome to offer your support as a donation.

Last year's Winter Fuel Campaign raised a total of £13,500 to help local familes cope with harsh winter temperatures. The funds donated by our supporters provided emergency assistance to poeple in need of immediate help. With your support we can help more families in need. 

This year we are inviting you to support the campaign by going underground to Spend a Night Down the pit. This will be a unique expericence, with an opportunity to meet speical guest, including Harry Gration, during your time underground. You will be helping to link the compaign to the district's heritage, when coal guaranteed warmth for many local families.

Each £25 raised will provide one emergancy winter fuel grant to help heat a family's home this winter.

Unsung Heroes 2020

Be Part of Something Special


The Community Foundation’s fourth annual volunteer awards will take place at Cedar Court Hotel, Wakefield on the evening of Friday 15 May. You and your guests will enjoy a three-course meal before being entertained by the ever-popular Dan Smith’s ‘Nearly Bublé’ performance.

Nominations 2020

We invite anyone who feels they know someone who has delivered something extraordinary, regularly going beyond the call of duty, to submit their nominations. All nominees must live within the Wakefield Metropolitan District and be nominated for their role as an unpaid volunteer. Nominees can be of any age (12 or above) and nominations are encouraged from every sector of society.

  • The closing date for receipt of completed nominations is 5pm on Friday, 28 February 2020.
  • All nominators will be advised by Friday 6 March whether their nominee has been short-listed for attendance at the Awards Evening.
  • Two free tickets will be allocated to each short-listed nominee for the Awards Evening with a further 2 tickets at half-price. Any additional tickets will be charged at the full price of £60.
  • All short-listed nominees will be required to attend the Awards Evening and take part in the production of a short video about their volunteering, to be shown as part of the event. Filming will take place on dates/locations to be agreed during the period mid-March to early April.
