Ordinary people who do extraordinary things

Unsung Heroes of the Wakefield District

Community Foundation for Wakefield District in association with the Wakefield Express & Ridings FM.

We are looking for people who have made a difference, who have run/organised activities or contributed in one way or another to helping people achieve their potential (or overcome an impediment) – more than they could have done by themselves.

This could include areas such as:

  • Sport
  • Disability
  • Mental health
  • Illness
  • Creative activities
  • Befriending
  • Caring

but they are not exclusive. If you know of someone involved in another activity area, then please nominate them.

Nominations must be submitted by 5pm on Friday 1 March 2019.

Nominees must:

  • Be Unpaid Volunteers
  • Be delivering something extraordinary, regularly going beyond the call of duty
  • Have a recognised track record in their sphere of activity
  • Reside and/or work within the Wakefield Metropolitan District which includes the Five Towns
  • Be nominated by an individual or organisation for whom, or with whom, they have been active for an extended period, and fulfil the other criteria (above)
  • Be of any age (12 or above) and nominations are encouraged from all parts of the Wakefield Metropolitan District, and every sector of society

If short-listed, Nominees must also:

  • Be available to attend the Awards Evening on Friday 17 May 2019
  • Be prepared to take part in the production of a short video about their volunteering, to be shown at part of the Awards Evening. Filming will take place on dates/locations in Wakefield District - to be agreed with the nominee - during March/early April 2019

Be part of something special

Unsung Hero Awards 2019

After the phenomenal success of our previous Unsung Heroes Awards we are pleased to announce that this year’s awards will be held on Friday 17th May 2019 at Cedar Court Hotel, Wakefield.

We are hoping to top last year’s emotional event when we were able to recognise 10 people who gave their time voluntarily to help others. They came from all corners of our District and dealt with all manner of issues and we expect to hear further tear jerking stories again this year of ordinary people doing extraordinary things.

This is your opportunity to thank them for their efforts and to show your commitment to making our district a better place to be and do business in.
